When are the X-Men not the X-Men?

Well, it looks like they haven’t been since we started this little project… nice of them to finally let us know!  We’re going to talk a lot about what it means to be an X-Man vs. what it means to be a Krakoan today.

Also, there’s going to be a bit of sword-fighting…

  • Apocalypse vs. Genesis

Plus: Our always x-cellent and x-citing mailbag, chock full of missives from our x-tended x-lapsed x-family!

I am firmly of the opinion that the info pages from this issue should have opened X-Men number 1. The entirety of X-Men volume whatever would have been improved by the knowledge that the X-Men no longer exist and that Cyclops was looking for a new role whether in his family or within the Krakoan hierarchy. It would have added texture to the whole HOXPOXDOX premise to have characters feeling the absence of the X-Men.

Of course I'm glad to see the X-Men back and enjoyed the way the discussion went among the Quiet Council. The fact that Scott and Jean need Kurt, Emma and Kitty to remain on the council is a great bit of characterisation. And we have one less hero on the Quiet Council, will that influence the votes?

Apocalypse vs Genesis is an interesting fight. I don't think I expected Apocalypse to win so it was a little surprising. Of course with the Genesis/Annihilation situation he can win and lose.

I have to agree that Asrar is not as fantastic as usual in this issue. I feel like he is deliberately aping Yu here. I wonder if this is something editorial asked for. As you say it could just be overwork as he's also doing most of the Excalibur you'll be covering next issue.

Anyway until we discover that I was disbanded all along, Make Mine X-Lapsed!
