We’re officially on the “Path to” X of Swords – Follow along with all the fun with #EcksofTens

We’ve still got a few problems to solve before we hop into crossover mode, however… and one of ’em won’t stop telling us to “call her Kate”.  With today’s comic, we will, by hook or by crook, put that problem behind us.  How will they do it?  Well, maybe they’ll finally remember Kitty’s entire mutant gimmick?

Also: Some excellent feedback in the mailbag – including some discussion of The Crucible from X-Men (vol.5) #7!  It’s a great time as always – I hope you decide to join us!

So funny hearing my feedback on a comic I hated after your review of a comic I loved. If you asked me to pick my favourite comic of 2020 it would come down to a battle between Marauders 11 and 12. I think they might be the perfect encapsulation of my love of the X-Men which always comes back to the relationships between the characters. The way that the X-Men react to the death of Kitty and then her resurrection show why I have loved these characters for nearly 40 years.

I was slightly perturbed that they chose to give Kitty a Viking funeral. It seems unbelievable that no-one involved realised that you shouldn't burn the Jewish girl. It's particularly jarring considering someone went so far as to research that 18 is a good omen in Judaism as it represents the word chai which means life. Kurt could recognise that reference but doesn't know that Judaism forbids cremation. I was under the impression that post-war German education insisted that all children study Judaism and the holocaust.

I was also surprised that the five were just throwing the failed eggs in the ocean. I know they establish that Xavier doesn't restore the people until they emerge from the eggs but surely with Kitty's powers those 17 blank slate Kates could all survive. What if they all turn up at some point? There could be a pretty macabre story in that.

Although Moira is below the island so she's probably fishing them out and doing awful experiments on them.

The scene with Dolores and Storm on the subway was also delightful. It's great to see the person behind the memos and get an idea of how they think. I have always been a fan of the Claremontian idea that everyone who meets Storm falls in love with her a bit. I know I did back in the day and I'm 100% homosexual.

It's so interesting hearing Evan's interpretation of The Crucible. It's a real testament to the possibilities of the current era that we all see the same event in slightly different ways. I'm really looking forward to your coverage of Ecchs of Tens as I loved it but it's not perfect and it goes off in some directions that I think we will all react to differently. It is a little cheeky for them to label this as Path to X of Swords as these events have absolutely no bearing on it. In fact Marauders is effectively put on hold for the crossover. They could publish a collection of Marauders 6-12 and 16 that would feel like an uninterrupted storyline.
