I'm going to comment on X-Men 18 & 19 as one thing as I read them in one sitting and they really are a single story. I'll be honest I walked away from these issues unsure of what to think. In many ways there was very little story. Even though the issues encompassed hundreds of years not that much happened. In fact I was looking forward to hearing how you responded as I wasn't sure how I felt.

Ultimately it is very true that the X-Men have created their own villains this time around. The Children of the Vault will be a bigger threat because of who the Krakoans sent into investigate them. That is definitely more interesting than the likes of Hordeculture. You are right that Hickman seems to spend most of his time on set up and very little following through. It's probably a good thing that it's Gerry Duggan who will be writing future stories with Synch and Laura as we can trust him to bring the feelings rather than just to assert a relationship. There is something really creepy about the idea of a fated relationship and you can be sure that Laura will rebel against any element of pre-destination as that has been a cornerstone of her character since she took on the name Wolverine.

I find it unbelievable that you've had a pushback from Hickman fans. If anything I think you're often too generous to him. I know I can stomach a text page better than you (I imagine that's because I loved the 5YL Legion which was full of them) but I am much more critical of Hickman than you. I think he is often given a pass because we know he has an elaborate plan but ultimately you have to judge the comic in front of you not some endless tapestry. "Hickman style" is not ab excuse to waste my money.

Anyway, until Chris starts to produce diagrams instead of podcasts, Make Mine X-Lapsed!
