Remember that History of Okkara we read in X-Men #12?  Y’all wanna hear it again?  Yeah, me neither — but we’re gonna anyway!

Today issue of X-Men (vol.5) continues filling time to ensure #EcksofTens makes it to 22-parts by having Apocalypse share a version of the story The Creepy Summoner told him… with the people of Krakoa.

Also: Great Mailbag with an embarrassing admission from your humble host!

The problem with issues like this is I would prefer them to gradually seed this backstory over a number of issues. I grew up in the era where comics would gradually tell a character's prehistory a couple of pages a time over many months so regular readers would know everything before the crossover. Nowadays this information has to be presented within the crossover because they need the collection to include this stuff. Something like Inferno which relies on over 200 previous comics can't happen now because everything pertinent needs to be in the crossover collection. I preferred the old way but I know that I have lost the battle. We now have a situation where we can need data dump issues like this which are functional rather than entertaining. There is nothing wrong with this issue as I need to know who Genesis is to understand why Apocalypse does what he does but it doesn't get me excited.

Having said that we get Mahmud Asrar which does get me excited. And if you'd told me Jonathan Hickman would write an Apocalypse Romance Comic I'd never have believed you.

Anyway until A leaks a sex tape, Make Mine X-Lapsed!
