Just when we thought it was safe to read another issue of X-MenEmpyre rears its ugly (and horrendously dull) head!

Today, in what might be the shortest episode of this program yet, we focus on Vulcan… as he happens across a bunch of nothin’ happenin’ aliens, while talking a lot about the fire that burns inside him.

Also: Petra and Sway get drunk… because, it’s not an issue of Dawn of X without somebody getting wasted — unfortunately for me, your humble host doesn’t drink.  Maybe I ought to start…

I think the reason the drinking humour surrounding Petra and Sway doesn't work is because the story says the 3 of them are drinking to forget their trauma. Alcoholism isn't funny. I didn't enjoy the scene but at least when Magneto was drunk he was having fun. There is potential humour in a normally buttoned up person letting loose due to drinking but, I reiterate, alcoholism isn't funny.

I do wonder why the 3 Retconned Amigos remember the trauma of their deaths. It seems a weird thing for Xavier to back up into Cerebro. I've never read Deadly Genesis, was the Professor with them when they died? Or was he back in the mansion like in Giant-Size number 1?

Anyway I hated this story. Characters I dislike behaving in a way I abhor does not make for a good story. Leinil Yu draws great moon vistas though.

After that I'm desperately in need of some Merry X-Lapsed. I love a Christmas story and I'm looking forward to hearing your take.
